In a prosperous small city in Jiangzhou, at the end of an inconspicuous alley, there stands a humble inn called “Dream of Nanke.” The innkeeper, A Ke, is unaware of her origins and identity; she appears proud and beautiful but has an extremely peculiar personality, her moods fluctuating unpredictably. It is not uncommon for her to lose her temper in front of guests. Nevertheless, the inn’s business remains thriving, with a continuous flow of guests lining up for a stay, as everyone is astonished to discover that as long as they sleep here, the troubles that linger in their hearts miraculous dissipate, allowing them to rest without worries. The “Book of the Later Han - Rituals” states: “The Xiongbo ate dreams, the Tengjian consumed the ominous, and the Bori clan fed on nightmares.” The Bori clan possesses a divine power granted by heaven, immortal and unaging, guarding their territory while undertaking the responsibility of dispelling worries for those who stay, surviving by consuming nightmares. The innkeeper A Ke is a descendant of this clan. Initially, A Ke was full of complaints about this duty, unable to understand why the Bori clan must consume those strange and dark nightmares to survive. However, as time passed and years went by, A Ke encountered many people, including a mute child, elderly individuals suffering from chronic illnesses, desperate women who loved but could not be loved, and iron-blooded generals from the battlefield... Without exception, they all shed tears of sorrow in “Dream of Nanke,” leaving behind their troubles from the mortal realm. In observing the varied flavors of the world through these people's dreams, A Ke gradually learned many things she did not understand before...
