In 1920s Shanghai, the siblings of the Xie family, whose parents were framed, are separated and embark on different life paths. Xie Zhifei, after many hardships, establishes his own textile factory, working and striving alongside the workers, contributing to the improvement of their social status. With the strong support of the factory manager Xu Feng (who is actually a Communist), he becomes the chairman of the Shanghai Factory Relocation Committee, bearing the heavy responsibility of moving the factories from the Bund to the inland. Xie Zhifei accidentally discovers that Zhang Shen, who conspired with the Japanese to obstruct the relocation, is the very person responsible for his parents' deaths, leading to a fierce struggle between them over the factory's relocation. After a long and winding search for his family, Xie Zhifei finally reunites with his brother and sister. His brother dies saving him from Zhang Shen's gunfire, while his sister joins the Communist Party. The weakened Zhang Shen is ultimately defeated by Xie Zhifei. Subsequently, the siblings gather their strength for justice and engage in a life-and-death struggle against the greater evil force behind Zhang Shen—the Japanese invaders! After the victory in the war, Xie Zhifei donates all his assets and industries to the new China, and the siblings visit their brother's grave to comfort his spirit.
