On the eve of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the underground Communist Party member Ou Xiaoan (played by Huang Jingyu), who has been hiding in the Military Intelligence Bureau, successfully escapes from the Japanese military’s biochemical gas research prison. During the escape, he is severely injured and falls into a coma, only to be discovered and rescued by the Chinese Expeditionary Force. Upon awakening, Ou Xiaoan realizes that he has lost nearly four years of memories from his time in prison. He begins to pick up fragmented memories from the last point he remembers four years ago and secretly investigates, intending to expose the sinister nature of the Japanese spy Li Shaotang (played by Ma Sichao). During this time, he and underground Communist Party member Qin Moqing (played by Xin Zhilei) go from mutual suspicion and testing each other to cooperating together, eventually locating the Japanese military biochemistry gas research institute, where they capture the Japanese Intelligence Commander Ohashi and Noya. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang prepares to take over the "people, money, and materials" left behind by the Japanese military’s biochemistry gas research institute in preparation for future battles against the Communist Party. Ou Xiaoan learns about this intelligence and crushes the malicious plan while exposing Li Shaotang's true identity as a Japanese spy. Finally, Ou Xiaoan, code-named "Solitary Star" within the underground Communist Party, returns to the embrace of the party organization.
