Joy (played by Dawn French) carefully nurtures her doll every day, believing that one day it will become her true child. The strange blind old man Lomax lives alone in a large house and has an eccentric collection hobby. The disheartened one-handed clown Jelly performs shows for children, but can only perform one act. The dwarf Robert has a crush on the leading actress of the troupe but is constantly teased by others.
