The tall and handsome young man, Tong Tong, held a grand wedding with his wife, Yue Jingshui, on a sunny day. Speaking of Yue Jingshui's father, he is an absolute giant in the local real estate industry, known as the Building King, Yue Tai. Regarding such a union, no matter what the parties involved think, the thoughts of others are very clear: a poor boy, rising to fame solely based on his good looks. However, the reality is not as beautiful as outsiders imagine. Just entering the wealthy circle, Tong Tong hasn't felt the glory belonging to him yet, but has first sensed the strange atmosphere of the Dragon Palace, where the Building King resides. First, the kitchen gas often ignites automatically; however, this 'automatic' is in quotes, as no one has ever seen the culprit secretly lighting the gas. Tong Tong believes that since he is now the son-in-law of the Building King, he has an obligation to catch this disruptive hand in the Dragon Palace, but reality strikes once again, forcefully undermining his determination. Before Tong Tong and Yue Jingshui got married, Building King Yue Tai was already suffering from illness, unable to go to work at the company. The mysterious events occurring in the Dragon Palace made matters worse, as Yue Tai's heart disease relapsed, and for several days, blue flames leaped from the stove, plunging the Dragon Palace into inexplicable panic! However, through all this fear, Tong Tong seems to sense that what lurks beneath is actually a huge crisis regarding money and power within the Heng Tai Group. When mysterious events in the Dragon Palace have yet to yield results, a mysterious phone call comes in, with only a few words: I have returned from the Dragon Palace! Hearing this, Yue Tai immediately suffered a heart attack, and the Dragon Palace was thrown into chaos. Once he recovered from the heart attack, Yue Tai couldn't wait to summon Tong Tong to his side, personally recounting a story from his early days. It turns out that there has always been a rumor that Yue Tai killed his benefactor, Ye Yuanqiu, who once helped him rise, and embezzled all the wealth. Yue Tai tells Tong Tong that the few words mentioned in that mysterious phone call refer precisely to this old affair. Encouraged by Yue Tai, Tong Tong intensified his investigation into the incident, only to discover that the empire of the Building King, Heng Tai Group, is not as powerful as the outside world believes, but rather has long been mired in a financial crisis, leaving Tong Tong bewildered. During Yue Tai's treatment in England, Tong Tong began to investigate the company's finances, hoping to find a breakthrough, only to face numerous obstacles, with even dark forces trying to intervene and stop him. This made Tong Tong more convinced that there are significant secrets within Heng Tai. The financial issues of Heng Tai Group soon surfaced, even threatening the group's survival. Reluctantly, Yue Tai returned from England to appease various relationships and brought in a fund from the United States for support, allowing Heng Tai Group to temporarily weather the storm. With Yue Tai's return, strange occurrences happened in the Dragon Palace again. The ignited gas had made people somewhat numb, and ultimately, even the laughter of Ye Yuanqiu appeared through a recording device, causing everyone in the Dragon Palace to feel uneasy. After investigating, Tong Tong learned that Heng Tai's financial issues were not due to mismanagement but because Yue Tai had invested large sums of company funds in the speculation of London copper futures. Tong Tong was very worried but found no way to stop it, only able to observe silently. Finally, what was inevitable came; London copper reached an all-time high, causing the speculating Yue Tai to suffer a devastating defeat. If not for forcibly closing positions, he would have faced bankruptcy on the spot. In the midst of the crisis, Tong Tong was urgently tasked to preside over Heng Tai's operations, striving to buy Yue Tai some breathing space. Meanwhile, the Dragon Palace was truly caught in a storm, as terrifying events escalated once again. First, dead sheep's eyes appeared in drinks, then Yue Tai's beloved parrot was put into an oven, and lastly, the family's black cat was killed at the door of Yue Tai's bedroom. Unable to bear the atmosphere at home, Yue Jingshui hoped Tong Tong would move to England with her. Tong Tong did not agree, and in a fit of anger, Yue Jingshui declared her intention to remarry her ex-husband, forcing Tong Tong to sign a divorce agreement before storming off. Misfortune did not come alone; at this time, Yue Tai's fraudulent loan from the bank using dual contracts was also exposed. The deceived homeowners came to cause a scene, and under the immense pressure, Yue Tai collapsed again and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. When Tong Tong arrived at the hospital, he found that Yue Tai was never taken there. Just as he was puzzled, he received a threatening phone call, claiming that Yue Tai had been kidnapped and demanding Tong Tong deliver £5 million to London for the handover, with a very short time limit, leaving Tong Tong in despair. The police, having been notified, quickly entered the Dragon Palace. After various investigations, there was still no sign of Yue Tai. Tong Tong called Yue Jingshui, who was far away in London, hoping she could provide money to rescue her father, but was met with a sharp rebuke from Yue Jingshui, who cleanly rejected Tong Tong's request, as if Yue Tai were Tong Tong's father, leaving Tong Tong utterly confused. The bad news came again; Yue Tai unexpectedly died suddenly from the pressure of his heart disease. Tong Tong was extremely shocked but had no choice but to accept the reality before him. In the following days, Tong Tong was overwhelmed with errands. With Yue Tai's death, Heng Tai Group came to an end, forced to accept a bank asset restructuring. Amidst the chaos, Tong Tong consistently felt a hint of distrust and suspicion about the once-mighty Building King, who had now met an untimely demise. One day on the street, Tong Tong encountered someone who shouldn’t be there—Yue Jingshui's ex-husband! After talking, Tong Tong suddenly realized that Yue Jingshui had no intention of remarrying when she divorced him, but had employed deceitful tactics, even creating some non-existent doubts. Tong Tong’s intuition told him something was off, and the news from the police later confirmed his suspicions. Yue Tai's private doctor was captured during his escape, and he confessed that Yue Tai never had a heart disease; everything was feigned. The feigned illness was to facilitate his trading of futures in the Dragon Palace. Tong Tong agreed with the police that Yue Tai did not die but instead hid in a place outsiders could not know. Analyzing the data he had carefully, Tong Tong recalled every conversation with Yue Tai, and gradually, a place name appeared in his mind—Duan Shui, the place where Yue Tai started his career. In Duan Shui, in the small building where Yue Tai once lived, Tong Tong found Yue Tai, who was leisurely sipping tea. Yue Tai seemed not surprised by Tong Tong's arrival at all. Through their conversation, Tong Tong candidly admitted that those bizarre occurrences in the Dragon Palace were all orchestrated by him, with the purpose of causing Yue Tai to suffer from heart failure due to stress, because he is the son of Ye Yuanqiu, the benefactor that Yue Tai once harmed! Yue Tai did not blame Tong Tong nor did he feel regret for his actions. He told Tong Tong that in today’s society, everyone revolves around money. If you are poor, then you cannot stand in society, nor can you realize your ideals. Thus, everyone is forced to compete with others for their interests, so he does not regret his choice. However, Tong Tong believes that no matter how society develops, money can never be a shameless excuse, because the one making the choice is you, not money. In this society, as long as you harbor greed, you cannot get along harmoniously with others, and whether or not to cling to greed is a choice you make! Watching Yue Tai being taken away by the police, Tong Tong felt no relief, but a deep sorrow for the degradation of human nature.
