The story of "Torrent" is set between 1925 and 1927, following the emotional and struggle stories of five aspiring young brothers: Nie Tianhong, Sun Jingyu, Gong Jinshou, Han Dongshui, and Yang De, both inside and outside the military academy. It reflects the tumultuous青春和人生选择 of that generation of passionate youth amidst the currents of time. The sworn brothers, around 20 years old, Nie Tianhong, Sun Jingyu, Gong Jinshou, Han Dongshui, and Yang De, come together due to an assassination attempt on a warlord. Alongside female classmates like Situ Xiaoyun, Zhao Tianxin, and Xiao Nizi, they travel from Shandong to Wuhan and Changsha to join the revolution, apply to military academies, and endure trials by fire. They later face baptism and severe tests through events such as the Nanchang Uprising and the Guangzhou Uprising. Ultimately, the five brothers part ways due to differing beliefs, with Sun Jingyu and Han Dongshui taking different life paths from Gong Jinshou and others.
