In the 1990s, a Southeast Asian girl with dreams marries far away on this affluent island… The first story: about Wenhui, who comes from Vietnam. She lives with her husband, a construction worker, and her mother-in-law in a remote area of the island. Each of them has different expectations of "home"; however, unease fills the house, disasters threaten their lives outside, forcing Wenhui to face the disillusionment of happiness, drifting in a foreign land while eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new millennium. The second story: as the island enters a new era, a mysterious Vietnamese woman appears in the city. She is an investigator who, while on missions to catch cheating spouses, also seeks to realize her dreams by exploring Wenhui's experiences and that of the island. However, throughout her journey, she unexpectedly encounters familiar figures and events from the past. This film juxtaposes two narratives, reflecting on the past and present of Taiwanese society, asking whether new immigrant women in a foreign land can reclaim their identity and break free from their circumstances across different times. Can they live authentically with the locals and attain true freedom?
