This drama is adapted from the Douban Reading serialized novel "Her and Her Archipelago," authored by Yi Nan. The decisive head of the family, Qiao Haiyun (played by Song Chunli), has established a rule that everyone must return home for the New Year, and no one has ever broken this rule until the most honest third generation, Li Yijin (played by Ma Sichun), suddenly breaks tradition by spending the New Year at her boyfriend's house, causing family conflict. Qiao Haiyun has three daughters: the eldest, Meng Mingwei (played by Xu Fan), is not biological; feeling inferior due to a limp, she hopes her daughter will succeed, creating a tense relationship with Li Yijin. However, they eventually come to understand each other's struggles and realize that maintaining an appropriate distance is the key to a healthy mother-daughter relationship. The second daughter, Meng Wanzi (played by Liang Jing), and her academically brilliant daughter, Tao Shuna (played by Sun Qian), appear to be the perfect mother-daughter duo, but they inadvertently uncover each other's secrets. The process of getting to know each other anew also leads them to rediscover themselves, and they ultimately understand that a perfect mother-daughter relationship doesn't hide flaws but instead supports one another. The youngest, Meng Yian (played by Li Xiaoran), is the most like Qiao Haiyun: strong and independent. Not wanting to become the kind of strong woman her mother is, she serendipitously finds herself on the same path as her mother. The struggle to balance career and family gradually helps her understand her mother's experiences. The three generations of women in the Meng family are like an archipelago; although they are far apart, they support and coexist with each other.
