In the remote Dongcheng University Medical Department affiliated hospital, it is renowned nationwide for Professor Kiyoshi Saeki's (played by Seiyo Uchino) miraculous "Saeki-style" heart valve repair surgery, and his ceremonial black hemostatic forceps add an air of myth to his persona. In contrast stands the Imperial University Hospital, which surpasses Dongcheng University in overall strength. Professor Keisuke Nishizaki (played by Ennosuke Ichikawa) of that hospital fiercely competes with Professor Saeki for the presidency of the Japan Society of General Surgery. To this end, Nishizaki sends his star pupil Kota Takashina (played by Kotaro Koizumi) to infiltrate enemy territory, attempting to shake Saeki's standing with the latest medical equipment. However, under Saeki's command is a character who gives all doctors a headache.
