Rosetta (Valentina Scalici) and Luciano (Giuseppe Ieracitano) are a pair of siblings who depend on each other; their mother is imprisoned for forcing her daughter into prostitution. After the incident is exposed by the media, the two are taken by two police officers to a train headed for an orphanage. One of the officers leaves early, entrusting the siblings to Officer Antonio (Enrico Lo Verso), who looks after them alone. The sister bears the psychological burden of being a child prostitute, while the brother often does as he pleases, leading to frequent arguments between them. Antonio quietly observes, carefully nurturing their innocent hearts. After experiencing a series of misfortunes including robbery, eviction from a hotel, expulsion from school, and asthma issues, Antonio seems to establish a fatherly yet friendly relationship with the siblings, but a newspaper suddenly threatens to plunge their world into chaos… This film won the Jury Prize at the 45th Cannes Film Festival.
