Although their life is frugal, they are a happy family. As an adult, Amin works in a hair salon to support her family and pay for her sister's education. One day, she unexpectedly witnesses a conflict involving the dancer Ah Hong (played by Chung Chuhung) and several business partners. Unafraid of threats, Amin steps in to help Ah Hong, and they form a friendship. As fate would have it, the stepfather is framed and imprisoned, and their mother becomes seriously ill. Amin must raise money in a short period, and her only option is to become a dancer. Under the guidance of the manager Cat Ma (played by Maria), Amin enters the most popular nightclub in Hong Kong and meets Ah Hong again. The bitter life of a dancer leads Amin to grow under Ah Hong's mentorship. Together, they face various hardships, supporting and caring for each other, forging a bond of life and death. Just as their father is about to be released from prison and life starts to look hopeful, the crash of the stock market in 1988 strikes like a bolt from the blue and destroys everything. Ah Hong loses all her money invested in stocks and attempts suicide.
