After the September 18 Incident, Shanghai herbal medicine merchant Xiang Qingsong secretly organized a fundraiser to support the Northeast Anti-Japanese Volunteer Army, while his son Xiang Binli secretly participated in anti-Japanese activities without his father's knowledge. After the January 28 Incident, Shanghai fell into chaos, and the Xiang family suffered greatly. Xiang Binli joined the Northeast Anti-Japanese Volunteer Army, but after his superiors surrendered, he defected to the Anti-Japanese Front led by the Communist Party. His superiors decided to send Xiang Binli back to Shanghai to establish an underground transportation line to provide supplies and medicine for the anti-Japanese armed forces. After the Songhu Campaign broke out, Xiang Binli joined the Second Division of the New Fourth Army, establishing a base in Central China and launching guerrilla warfare, abbreviated as the "Jiang Anti-Japanese Brigade," which conducted a night raid on the Hushuguan Station, annihilating the Japanese railway patrol unit. The Shanghai garrison appointed Yamaguchi Kazuo as the Wuxi garrison commander to deal with Jiang Anti-Japanese forces. After two years of difficult maneuvers, both sides battled it out on various fronts, with victories and defeats on both sides. In 1941, after experiencing the Anhui Southern Incident, the Jiang Anti-Japanese Brigade returned to the Central China base. The New Fourth Army reorganized it into the Central China Independent Brigade, appointing Xiang Binli as the brigade commander. To break the Japanese puppet government's "clearing of countryside" and "reclamation" plans, they constantly fought against the enemy, ultimately welcoming the victory of the anti-Japanese war in 1945.
