This series is adapted from the novel of the same name by writer, science editor, and advertising copywriter Bonnie Garmus. The story takes place in the early 1950s when society largely believed women belonged in the home rather than in professional fields. Elizabeth Zott (played by Brie Larson) aspires to be a scientist in a male-dominated world. She works in a laboratory as an assistant to renowned scientist Calvin Evans (played by Lewis Pullman), and there is an extraordinary chemistry between them. However, when Elizabeth discovers she is pregnant, is left alone, and is fired from the lab, she puts her dreams on hold but is also sparked with the unique cleverness of a single mother. Elizabeth accepts a job as a host on a television cooking show, where she begins to teach a nation of overlooked housewives and the suddenly attentive men not only cooking recipes but also the knowledge she has longed to return to her true passion: science.
