Kurt (Tom Schilling) had an aunt who was once imprisoned in a concentration camp and ultimately died at the hands of the Nazi doctor Karl (Sebastian Koch). Although Kurt was fortunate enough to escape to West Germany before the Berlin Wall was built, his entire childhood was spent under the shadow of the Nazis, which left him with deep emotional scars. Afterward, Kurt enrolled in the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts, where he poured his inner despair and pain onto the canvas, unable to escape the shadows of his past. By chance, Kurt met a girl named Elli (Paula Beer), whose beauty and vitality gradually healed the wounds in his heart. However, when the two mustered the courage to take their relationship to the next level, they faced strong opposition from Elli's father.
