Randy Robinson (played by Mickey Rourke), nicknamed "The Hammer," was a shining star in the American independent wrestling scene of the 1980s, leaving behind countless classic matches, with his signature move, the "Hammer's Fall," captivating many enthusiastic wrestling fans. However, with the rapid development of the industry and a decline in his health, the era of "The Hammer" has long passed. Due to his love for wrestling, Randy has never left the ring, enduring a struggling life and physical pain just to share in the immense joy each show brings with his long-time wrestling fans. He stubbornly chases the last glimmer of glory, while his personal life deteriorates. Years of grueling travel have strained his relationship with his daughter, Stephanie (played by Evan Rachel Wood), and severe impacts combined with continuous prescription drug use push his heart to the brink of collapse. Isolated, he can only find fleeting comfort from the stripper Cassidy (played by Marisa Tomei) after each grueling match. Due to his health, Randy decides to retire from wrestling to find a steady job and regain the warmth of family. However, his manager plans a 20th-anniversary classic rematch. For his lifelong love of wrestling, for his fervent fans, and for what he has held onto for so long, Randy finally dons his gear again and returns to the ring… This film won the Golden Lion at the 2008 Venice Film Festival, the Best Actor Award (Mickey Rourke) at the 2009 BAFTA Awards, and the Best Original Song and Best Actor at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards.
