An undercover police officer is exposed and killed by a gang leader due to poor acting skills. The chief (played by Ann Hui) decides to find the most ambitious actor within the police force to study acting at an academy. Inspector Lin (played by Suet Lam) finds the highly ambitious Chen Wenlong (played by Jansen Cheung) and entrusts him with an important task. Wenlong is passionate about acting and has a girlfriend, Judy (played by Jeana Ho), whom he has been dating for seven years, but their relationship is strained. Shan Dan (played by Charlene Choi), a transfer student like Wenlong, is a Category III actress who faces discrimination because of her background but remains committed to improving her acting skills. Meanwhile, Wenlong's exaggerated acting catches the attention of others. Shan Dan and Wenlong empathize with each other and become friends. Thinking he has improved, Wenlong attempts an action assigned by his superior but ultimately fails. He is then ordered to drop out, but later receives guidance from a mentor (played by Anthony Wong) and truly understands the essence of acting.
