On a summer day in 1846, a dozen or so ragged and exhausted people arrived on the coast of Macau. They were Shavad (played by Martini), who had just been appointed the Governor of Macau by the Portuguese queen, along with his entourage, having just survived a shipwreck. Suddenly, a group of masked men with bows and swords forcibly took most of the opium they were carrying and a suitcase containing the queen's appointment letter, and then they departed. It turned out they had encountered the famous Macau pirate Du Hailong (played by Wu Yijiang). Shavad, fuming with anger, vowed to take revenge once he took office. After coming ashore, they found themselves in a Chinese fishing village, and they heard noisy sounds coming from a courtyard, so they went to investigate. On that day, the village head of Macau’s Wangxia, Lin Chunfang, was celebrating his young son Amin's 18th birthday, with his older son Lin Weiliao (played by Xie Junhao) and his fiancée Shuilian (played by Qin Lan) helping to organize the festivities, creating a lively scene. Just as they were having a good time, Shavad's subordinate Carlos led Portuguese soldiers in, rudely demanding to search for the stolen opium and suitcase, leading to a fierce clash between the two sides. Amin ran out to report to the official Wang Tao at the Qing government office in Wangxia for help, but he mysteriously disappeared and never returned... This is a story about the little-known, tragic, and dramatic events that took place in Macau in 1849.
