Long Shaoyu is the only son of the wealthy merchant Long Wu from Yangzhou during the Qing Yongzheng era. He is naturally active, mischievous, and clever, making him quite endearing. He has a betrothed wife named Hongmei, who deeply loves him despite his reluctance to accept her as part of the Long family. She constantly resolves difficulties for Shaoyu, acting as his guardian angel. Later, he encounters the outspoken Li Xiangyuan, Governor of the Two Rivers, who, with a sense of justice and a straightforward personality, helps Shaoyu several times using his special identity, yet Shaoyu's heart belongs to another. Shaoyu falls deeply for Nie Bing, the daughter of Nie Sanyang and Mingzhu, while the scheming Wan Qi also has an infatuation with her, leaving her confused amidst a complicated romance.
