This is a story that is both familiar and unfamiliar to us, depicting the different understandings and experiences of marriage and emotional lives among three men and women of different ages in a family... Associate researcher Feng Shihui's grafting experiment at the plant research institute failed, and the pressure from work combined with the busyness of household chores left her feeling very frustrated. Her husband, Professor Qi Yue from a university's insect research department, was doubling his efforts on a research project competing with an old classmate and a Cambridge expert, completely neglecting Shihui's feelings. They began to argue over childcare and household matters, unknowingly falling into the seven-year itch after marriage. Shihui's younger sister Feng Xueqing, after being accepted into graduate school, continues to date her boyfriend Wang Yi. Xueqing's mother, Shi Liangyu, believes Wang Yi should also pursue graduate studies to be worthy of Xueqing, and she interferes in various ways. However, Wang Yi's aspiration is to start his own business, leading to a bittersweet breakup between the young couple. Xueqing's father, Feng Tao, can only support his wife. Shihui had once disregarded her mother's opposition to marry Qi Yue, who hails from a rural background, but now she increasingly dislikes Qi Yue's machismo and unhygienic habits. Their relationship deteriorates from complaints to separation and cold wars. Qi Yue’s feelings for his old flame, Chi Ming, resurface, but Shihui does not regret her initial choice. Meanwhile, the troubled Qi Yue finds understanding from postdoctoral fellow Jiang Xinyue, who comes from a single-parent family, and they gradually develop feelings for each other. Upon hearing this, Shihui loses her reason and nearly pushes Qi Yue to the brink of divorce, but the confused Qi Yue slowly realizes the significance of children and family to himself, ultimately standing by his wife's side in the crucial moment, while Xinyue also understands that Qi Yue is merely a shadow of her pursuit of paternal love from childhood. Feng Tao had a lover from his youth who is now terminally ill. Upon learning this, Shi Liangyu resolutely decides to care for her through her final days, which deeply moves Feng Tao. After enduring hardships, Wang Yi successfully starts his business and wins back Xueqing; lovers finally become a couple. Life goes on, and Shihui and Qi Yue begin to cautiously nurture the marriage and feelings they have painstakingly rebuilt. This story explores different understandings of a happy marriage, emphasizing that marriage not only requires love, mutual understanding, and tolerance, but also careful nurturing and management. More importantly, when problems arise, one must learn to confront them sincerely and courageously, handling them with calmness and wisdom.
