The twenty-episode TV series "A Century of Xuyun" is based on the life story of the modern Chinese Zen master Xuyun, who was steadfast in heart, persevered in hardship, and compassionately helped the world. On a stormy night in 1840, the prefect of Quanzhou, Xiao Yutang, and his wife, who were middle-aged, gave birth to a son, only to find they had a lump of flesh. Mrs. Xiao, horrified, died, and Xiao Yutang, filled with grief and anger, ordered a servant to discard the lump. A wandering herbalist arrived and cut the umbilical cord, and a world-shaking cry echoed through the night; thus Xuyun came into the world, beginning his 120-year journey of seeking the path, experiencing 48 extraordinary events. This drama vividly showcases the challenges and perseverance of Master Xuyun, risking his life for the Dharma through a rich narrative filled with Zen insights, twists, and heartfelt moments. It presents his extraordinary journey in seven parts, including leaving the world for monastic life, the road to enlightenment, the journey west during the Gengzi year, reviving Jishan temple, the alliance between Tibetan and Han Buddhism, protecting the country with a Buddhist heart, and maintaining the light of wisdom, thus recreating the legendary experiences of this rarely seen monk in a century.
