In 1912, Xiang Jingyu studied at the provincial first women's normal school. After graduation, she returned to her hometown to establish the Xupu Girls' School. Later, Xiang Jingyu went to France for work-study and formed the "Xiang-Cai Alliance" with Cai Hesen. In 1921, Xiang Jingyu returned to China, was elected as a central committee member and the first women's minister at the Second National Congress of the Party, and became a member of the Central Political Bureau at the Third National Congress. Subsequently, she served as the secretary of the Women's Movement Committee of the Kuomintang Central Committee. In 1925, Xiang Jingyu led and organized the shocking May 30th Movement. After the failure of the Great Revolution, she insisted on staying in Wuhan and took on the heavy responsibility of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party. In 1928, Xiang Jingyu was arrested by the French police. On May 1 of the same year, she heroically sacrificed her life at the age of only 32.
