Qiu Yingjie is a police officer, diligent in his work and gentle in character. His wife, Yu Ruohua, is a primary school teacher, kind and virtuous, and their five-year-old son, Qiu Yuelei, is smart and adorable, leading a happy and fulfilling family life. One day, Qiu Yingjie's first love, Wang Xiaohong, suddenly contacts him, claiming she is unable to support her daughter Maomao and asks him to help send the child to an orphanage, which surprises Qiu Yingjie greatly. After this interruption by Wang Xiaohong, Qiu Yingjie, somewhat disoriented, is accidentally injured by a violent criminal while on duty and is hospitalized. Yu Ruohua is deeply worried and secretly asks her friend Chen Li to help him find a new job. The police station takes in a homeless boy named Dongdong, who refuses to disclose his parents or address.
