In the late 1980s, Shuitu Town in Beibei was a poor, agriculture-based village. In order to become prosperous, the village officials actively sought to restructure the rural industry. There were two wealthy families in the village, one named Du and the other named Li. The Du family was a distant relative of the Qing Dynasty emperor. To help Emperor Guangxu escape the summer heat, they specifically built a summer resort in Yangliu Village, named Du Family Courtyard. The Li family was a wealthy local gentry, and in order to compete with the Du family, they built a grand residence across from the Du family, named Li Family Courtyard. Du family relative, County Magistrate Du Boqing, who remained a widower for over forty years in memory of his mother from the Tang family, was devoted, filial to his in-laws, and raised his children with difficulty.
