The northeast has fallen, and the Shanghai Bund is in a precarious state, with everyone on edge. Amidst the rising calls for cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, the Japanese Special High Police resort to all means to incite discord and sabotage. A sudden appearance of a box of red drugs shrouds the already complex situation in an impenetrable fog, altering the fate of many… Arms are blown up right under people's noses, the Military Intelligence bank mysteriously suffers a loss of four yuan, the opium of Shanghai tycoon Lu Sheng is robbed on his own turf, his capable aide Hu Ziming is thrown into the river, and the witness of the arms case, Captain Li, is assassinated, exposing Lu Sheng’s transport route and leading to the arrest of the patriotic painter Yang Gongmin, who helped Lu Sheng transport opium.
