This drama claims to be the first folk kung fu anti-Japanese drama in the country, produced by Zhang Qian, the producer of "Soldier Assault," with the script written by Gao Dayong, screenwriter of "The Divine Doctor: Xi Lai Le," and directed by the renowned Taiwanese director Chen Zhihua. It features martial arts star Wu Yue (national martial arts champion) alongside well-known actors Ren Shuai, Xu Huaihuan, and Gao Xin. The story primarily reflects the heroic tales of the vast populace in the Yimeng Mountains who spontaneously resisted the invasion of Japanese imperialism during the Anti-Japanese War. A group of heroic figures from the grassroots, under the leadership of an injured Eighth Route Army company commander hiding in the civilian population, forms an anti-Japanese special squad. Each member possesses unique skills, including the precise sharpshooter company commander Chen Shaodong, the highly skilled fighter Xia Shijie, the agile thief Shi Xiao Er, the incredibly strong giant Shen Ma Dali, the flying knife expert Ji Xiaonu, and the crafty Yuan Hengli. This anti-Japanese special squad operates stealthily, fighting valiantly on the battlefield, behind enemy lines, and at the enemy's heart. They bravely storm the Japanese army headquarters to retrieve national treasures; they hide in Japanese military camps to successfully plan the rebellion of the collaborating army; they employ agile and mobile tactics to break the siege of enemies many times their number... They are active in the southwestern Shandong region, astonishingly completing one mission after another, striking a heavy blow against the Japanese invaders until the victory of the war. After watching, one feels enlightened; this drama showcases exciting and intense war scenes with significant visual impact, alongside numerous fierce martial arts duels and dazzling stunt performances. With national martial arts champion and action star Wu Yue taking the lead role and also serving as the action director, combined with the passionate performances of the actors, the fight choreography in this drama is clean and smooth, making for an exhilarating viewing experience. Besides successfully capturing the combat and war scenes, there are also many innovations. The standout fight scenes are largely credited to the dedicated performances of the lead actors. Throughout the entire shoot, none of the lead actors escaped injury, and Wu Yue, who took on both leading and action directing roles, was particularly battered, enduring 16-hour shooting days. He remarked, “I set a record of 84 consecutive hours without sleep. I was never overweight, but now I've lost over ten pounds.” For instance, there is a scene set in a restaurant where Wu Yue fought against over 80 martial artists, transitioning from the second floor to the first in one continuous shot lasting over three minutes. Wu Yue shared that he sustained a cracked cheekbone and rib injuries in this scene, and as many as six martial artists were injured and hospitalized. Such a dedicated and intense performance makes it impossible not to be impressed. It can be said that "True Heart Hero" is unique in its character setup and story arrangement, reminiscent of "The A-Team," with an equal level of excitement. The thrilling martial arts matches in "True Heart Hero" provide even more appealing aspects compared to "The A-Team." Anti-Japanese themed films have consistently achieved good viewership ratings upon release, and with the inclusion of Chinese kung fu elements and a compelling storyline in this drama "True Heart Hero," it is expected to be very well-received upon airing.
