The story takes place in Nanjing in the 1930s. Yu Shuicun (played by Tong Dawei) is a talented young painter. In an unexpected turn of events, he encounters a singer named Tao Zhi (played by Sun Li). As time goes by, Tao Zhi's beauty and integrity attract Yu Shuicun's attention, and they gradually become close.
