At the end of 1947, on the eve of the liberation of Northeast China, Yan Shuangying, a reconnaissance battalion commander of a unit in the Fourth Field Army, was ordered to organize a small team to infiltrate Tianjin city. Their goal was to obtain the operational plans of the Nationalist troops guarding Tianjin, draw military defense maps, and determine troop deployments to pave the way for the main forces to liberate Tianjin.
