In "Coal Capital" Huaihai City, a train rushes in, and the children playing on the railway are unaware of the impending danger. Seeing this, Qiao Xiaolong's father shouts and rushes to save them; the child is rescued, but Xiaolong forever loses his father. Wu Huaisheng's mother adopts Xiaolong. From then on, Wu Huaisheng, Kong Dajun, Liu Guoliang, and Qiao Xiaolong become good friends, like brothers even though they are not related by blood. Years later, Qiao Xiaolong has become a successful lawyer in Shanghai. One late night, his second brother Kong Dajun unexpectedly appears, revealing that a gas explosion has occurred in the mine he manages, resulting in numerous casualties among the miners.
