Several women whose husbands are rarely home have their own jobs, but feel empty and bored in their spare time. They wait at home each day for a call from their husbands or hope that their husbands can find time to come back from work. 刘玉芬 is a female police officer whose husband works in Shenzhen and occasionally returns home. She is used to talking on the phone with her husband every night, but often gets no answer. She hopes to get pregnant to have something to hold onto, but has a miscarriage due to catching a criminal suspect. A chance encounter with traffic police officer 洪大为 starts a new chapter in her life; they become a pair of reluctant lovers, with a token of affection being chicken feet. 玉芬 realizes her situation and feelings; she wants a man who needs her as much as she needs him, and ultimately decides to divorce her husband. 赵家玲's husband is a photographer who spends most of his time gathering material. 家玲 must not only be a good department manager and sell houses but also take her daughter to and from kindergarten. When she has work commitments, she asks 玉芬 to help pick up 多多. 玉芬 and 家玲 are good friends and often discuss work and relationships. 家玲 also meets a Taiwanese businessman, 林中和, who is very caring towards her and 多多.
