Yang Jingyu (1905-1940), originally named Ma Shangde, also known as Shunde, courtesy name Jisheng, was from Queshan, Henan. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1927. He led the Xiudian Autumn Harvest Uprising in Henan, serving as the commander-in-chief of the Queshan Peasant Revolutionary Army and the secretary of the Special Committee of the Communist Party of China in Southern Henan. From 1929, he worked in Northeast China. After the "September 18 Incident," he held positions including president of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Salvation Association, secretary of the Harbin Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and political commissioner of the Panshi Guerrilla Team. He also served as the commander and political commissioner of the First Independent Division of the Northeast People's Revolutionary Army, commander and political commissioner of the First Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, commander-in-chief of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, commander of the First Column Army, and secretary of the Southern Manchuria Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. He persisted in the anti-Japanese guerrilla warfare under extremely difficult conditions, earning the title of "model of fearlessness in hardship and determination in struggle." On February 23, 1940, he was heroically killed in battle against the Japanese invaders in Shenjian, Jilin (now Jingyu County). His body was dissected by the enemy, revealing that besides undigested roots, tree bark, and cotton fluff, there was not a single grain of food in his stomach, astonishing everyone present.
