The story takes place at the end of the Ming Dynasty, where General Qi Jiguang and Minister of War Qi Jiyu join forces to form the Qi Family Army, delivering a severe blow to the Japanese pirates daring to invade their territory. The leader of the pirates, Oshima Masayuki, colludes with the court's chief eunuch Tong DabaO (played by Yu Chenghui) to frame Qi Jiyu, leading to the disbandment of the Qi Family Army and the extermination of the Qi family. As the last descendant of the Qi family, Qi Shaozheng (played by Wu Jing) is forced to embark on a journey of escape. The abbot of Shaolin Temple, Zhi Yi (played by Wang Jue), takes Qi Shaozheng as his disciple. Tong DabaO learns of Qi Shaozheng's whereabouts and sets fire to the Shaolin Temple, leading to Zhi Yi’s unfortunate death while trying to protect Qi Shaozheng. Afterwards, Qi Shaozheng, carrying Zhi Yi’s blood letter, goes to Southern Shaolin to seek refuge with Abbot Yuan Zhao (played by Xu Xiangdong), and meets people such as Xiao Ni (played by Fatimah Yaqi), Hong Lian, and Hua Zi. This group of passionate youths plans to rebuild the Qi Family Army with their own strength.
