The television sitcom "The Crew Has Arrived" will revolve around the process of a TV drama crew filming a period drama. Through the exhibition of the thoughts, behaviors, and working lives of the main crew members, including the director, leading actors, and production supervisor, it reveals the dazzling state of the contemporary Chinese film and television industry, along with its amusing anecdotes. The production supervisor, Gong Xincheng (played by Gong Hanlin), is a 45-year-old man who has been with the crew for years. He is well-versed in various matters in the industry, shrewd and competent, eloquent and humorous, with a wide social circle. He is knowledgeable about the world but remains warm-hearted and kind, often resorting to all means to save costs. He frequently faces pressure from the crew and investors, embodying a fundamentally good nature despite many minor flaws. Gong Xincheng finally receives the long-coveted script for the historical TV series "Love and Hate in the Sea," and with the first investment successfully secured, he ambitiously begins to recruit talent. The first person he thinks of is Zhou Jun (played by Zhou Yingnan), a friendly, sociable, and loyal individual in the industry, to be his assistant director. Zhou Jun is 25 years old, enthusiastic and cheerful, sincerely treating people, though at times impulsively emotional and frequently flattering, but often missing the mark. He dreams of one day becoming a true director. Under Zhou Jun's recommendation, the crew hires the somewhat famous director Li Dapeng, who is 35 years old, having studied film in the UK. He believes that TV dramas are not true art and dreams of making a world-class film. Often saying "When my brother was in London," he suffers from severe narcissism, considering himself an artistic master. However, faced with the harsh reality of fierce competition and the need to make a living, he ultimately sets aside his pretenses and agrees to direct the TV series. Li Dapeng first recommends the actress Sun Bingbing, with whom he has an ambiguous relationship, as the female lead Rong Gege. Miss Sun is 23 years old, a recent graduate from a famous art academy, and she believes she possesses all the qualities needed to be a star, merely lacking opportunity. Sometimes cunning and scheming, at other times naive, Sun Bingbing recommends her senior Chen Baoming to play the male lead Wu Beile. Chen, in his early 30s, has appeared in some second-rate dramas, possessing only good looks but lacking acting skills; he is stingy and pretentious, cowardly yet keen on making a grand impression. The investors send their cousin Jin Yuzhu (played by Jin Zhu) to serve as the liaison producer and supervise the crew's finances. In her 40s, she is bold and quick in action, willing to take on responsibilities and uphold justice. She frequently catches the production supervisor in minor mischief, earning both fear and respect. Understanding the crew's difficulties, she secretly helps solve various problems. After analyzing, Jin Yuzhu believes the cast is not strong enough for the series to be successfully released and to recoup the investment, and she suggests hiring a star with strong appeal. Following her advice, the investors decide to hire the popular actress Fan Feifei as the female lead. At 28, she has been famous for years, arrogant and demanding, vain and superficial; her personality exhibits many flaws of famous actors, which makes her disliked by many, yet she often comes to the rescue of the crew in critical moments, gradually earning understanding and acceptance. The addition of Fan Feifei displeases the director and Sun Bingbing, who eventually have to compromise; Sun Bingbing takes a secondary role as Fan's servant Cuihong. Sun feels deeply unfair, believing her qualifications are on par with Fan Feifei's, secretly vying for the director's and writer's attention to increase her role, stirring up much trouble that ultimately blows up in her face, leading to her downfall. The assistant director Zhou Jun sympathizes with Sun Bingbing's plight, and their mutual compassion results in a complicated emotional entanglement throughout the series. Eventually, Sun concludes that Zhou Jun, "has a stable job but no steady income," offering little aid for her life and career, leading her to seek greener pastures away from him. Director Li Dapeng strives to establish authority within the crew but often finds himself at a disadvantage in conflicts with the female lead. Frequently hindered by her, he reluctantly yields out of frustration, and despite his stubbornness to maintain appearances, he often takes his frustrations out on the assistant director. Each appearance of the other crew members, extras, investors, and sponsors instigates conflicts and laughter. The sitcom "The Story of the Crew" reflects the stories happening in an ordinary television crew while radiating to the entire Chinese film and television industry, humorously alluding to and satirizing various representative events and figures. The show will expose and criticize many detrimental behaviors in the industry, such as pointless hype, talent shows, overnight fame, lawsuits against media, celebrity endorsements, scandals, unspoken rules, fanaticism among fans, and sponsorship scams. The characters in the sitcom "The Story of the Crew" are lovable and kind individuals, who come together for various reasons—whether in pursuit of dreams or due to life’s demands—speaking in different accents and diligently completing a noble task: enriching people's cultural and entertainment lives, enjoying every moment; they are a unique group of ordinary people, many of whom, despite their numerous flaws, display a noble character. Among them, there are opportunists, but most remain clear-headed in critical situations and steadfast in their principles. The sitcom "The Story of the Crew" is designed in a series format, with each story being relatively independent; although the plot threads relate, they do not connect. Episodes like "Talks on Paper," "My Under-the-Table Deal," "Not a Big Brother for Many Years," "Urgent Mission," "No Bargaining," "The Same-Luck Couple," and "The Naked Substitute Scandal" delve into the emotions and frustrations of individuals. The series will utilize a "play-within-a-play" format, where the set serves as their workplace, and the crew’s base is their living space. Through amusing and laugh-inducing scenarios, the show aims to showcase the vibrant spirit of those in the film and television industry, allowing audiences to discover the lesser-known yet intriguing stories within.
