In early 1949, the Pingjin Campaign concluded successfully with the peaceful liberation of Beiping, marking the end of the Nationalist Party's power, which was in a state of decline. Our army continued to pursue the victory, preparing to launch a river-crossing campaign against the remaining Nationalist forces entrenched in Jiangnan. The city defense commander Chen Huaiyuan (played by Sun Chun), stationed in the ancient city of Linjiang in Jiangnan, is a crucial piece in the chess game that influences the situation.
