The film tells the love and hatred between the two generations of Sand River Town and Wanjiazhuang in the 1930s. The villagers of Wanjiazhuang and Sand River Town drink from the Qinghe River together, yet they quarrel over the water source, leading to enmity that lasts until death, refusing to associate with one another.
