In the drama, the protagonist Wu Cheng'en is wise yet seemingly foolish, advocates justice, is charming and talented, excelling in poetry, prose, and painting; the characters from "Journey to the West" such as Sun Wukong, Tang Seng, and Zhu Bajie reflect the original character images in the drama; the rich and fantastic myths, fantasies, chivalry adventures, and bold and interesting artistic expressions, along with modern high-tech three-dimensional presentation techniques, greatly expand the extraordinary imagination of heaven and earth. During the Jiajing period of the Ming dynasty, Wu Yue, a minor official from Shan Yang County in Huaian, Jiangsu, took his son to Huaguo Mountain Yuntai Temple to talk with his old friend Monk Puyin, hoping that his son Wu Cheng'en could study and become an official, bringing glory to their ancestors. However, Wu Cheng'en, who had an extraordinary memory and great talent, became fascinated with the lively monkeys in the Water Curtain Cave of Huaguo Mountain, imagining he could be as free, imaginative, and capable as them. At the age of 76, Li Laofu, who had failed the imperial examinations for over 60 years, entered the examination hall with a rope, claiming that if he did not succeed this time, he would rather die. However, in this examination, Wu Cheng'en took first place, while his friend Shen Kun ranked second. Li Laofu, who failed again, was filled with regret but had high hopes for Wu Cheng'en. Before his death, he entrusted a young scholar to urge the current political official Cai Ang to take good care of Wu Cheng'en, hoping he would rise to a high position and fulfill his unachieved aspirations. Wu Cheng'en's sister, Wu Chengjia, was naturally beautiful, and the wealthy Luo Wanjin from Shan Yang County used his relationship with the Prime Minister Yan Song to try to forcibly marry Wu Chengjia, but was rejected by the Wu family; his son Luo Pang, envious of Wu Cheng'en's talent, could find no way to compete with him; the Luo family and the Wu family developed an irreconcilable feud. Wu Cheng'en's parents, sister, and wife Ye Yun all had high hopes for him to study and become an official, while Wu Cheng'en continued to follow his own path, watching monkeys, learning their movements, and listening to monkey plays, eventually becoming acquainted with the monkey performer Niu Yufeng. His close friends Shen Kun and Li Chunfang jokingly called Wu Cheng'en "Monkey Enthusiast." Despite their efforts to persuade him to cherish his talent and pursue an official career, they could not overcome Wu Cheng'en's stubbornness against the traditional examination system and unwillingness to become an official, allowing their friend to find joy in monkeys, friendship with them, and take on the grand ambition of writing "Journey to the West." Accompanied by his beloved wife Yufeng, a chivalrous woman, and the monkeys, Wu Cheng'en traveled the world, returning to Huaguo Mountain and attracting the attention of the court, enduring various hardships. However, unwavering and deeply connected to the common people, Wu Cheng'en’s imagination gave birth to stories such as the emergence of the Monkey King, the functioning of the golden staff, the havoc caused by the monkeys in heaven, his friend Bajie's refusal of marriage, Yufeng's blood sacrifice to save her husband, outsmarting the Yellow Wind Old Daoist, angrily beating the Bull Demon King, punishing the pirates, and the honorable building of a monkey garden. Finally, a monumental myth that symbolizes the perseverance, optimism, aspirations, great wisdom, and courage of the Chinese people, "Journey to the West," was completed through Wu Cheng'en's pen. Later, his supportive friend Li Chunfang faced the manuscript of "Journey to the West" penned by his late friend Wu Cheng'en, sitting properly at the table, writing "Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en" on the front page, softly murmuring: Cheng'en, you are the "Beauty Monkey King," you are Sun Wukong! You are indeed Sun Wukong! Ten years after Wu Cheng'en's death, "Journey to the West," revised by Li Chunfang, was officially published by Shide Tang in Nanjing in 1592. On October 8, 2005, the Wu Cheng'en Memorial Hall was established and opened in Huaian, Jiangsu Province…
