The story takes place in Northeast China in 1970. Yi Ku (played by He Bing), Si Tian (played by Yang Gung Yu), Qi Tian (played by Cui Lin), and Qi Miao (played by Zhou Yun) are four siblings who share a deep bond. Their father, Qi Shi Yin (played by Li You Bin), is a music teacher at a school, and the family lives in peace and happiness. However, misfortune strikes when Qi Shi Yin loses his job due to an accident, and his wife falls ill with pneumonia from overwork, plunging the entire family into hardship. To make ends meet, Qi Shi Yin seeks new opportunities but unexpectedly dies in a car accident. Shortly after, his wife also passes away, leaving the four children orphaned and living a precarious life with their uncle. Unable to endure this situation any longer, the eldest sibling Yi Ku runs away with his siblings and eventually manages to send them to three different families that can adopt them.
