Elder Liu Jinqing (played by Ma Jingwu) has two sons and a daughter. They have all established their own families and should be enjoying a happy retirement. However, during Liu Jinqing's 70th birthday banquet, a dispute between his two daughters-in-law triggers a sudden heart attack, leading to Liu Jinqing's death. This unexpected event turns his will and the debts he left behind, as well as his relationship with his unregistered partner Zhang Changlan (played by Cao Cuifen), into an unsolvable mystery. This series of issues leads to a series of upheavals among Liu Jinqing's three children and their respective families. The eldest son Liu Yi (played by Yao Lu) has always been introverted, dull, and honest, conforming to others and never showing the decisiveness and capability expected of an eldest brother in a family. The younger brother Liu Fan (played by Hu Kun) is gentle and mild-mannered, somewhat weak, having lost himself for the sake of his wife. Faced with various crises in career, family, and marriage, the kind, smart, and witty Liu Yun (played by Yong Mei) is pushed to the forefront, transforming from passive to active and taking on the responsibilities of the Liu family.
