This is an epic love story that traverses the realms of fantasy and reality—romantic, tragic, mysterious, and magnificent. This is a heroic tale of a woman who battles against feudal ignorance with her vibrant life, in pursuit of love, freedom, and equality. This is a story of two men fighting for rights to gain freedom and love, moving from death to rebirth and then back to death in a cycle of fate. This is a legendary fable told in a virtual ancient environment, about love, desire, family, and power. In the late Qing Dynasty, as the Hundred Days' Reform failed, Li Yongchun, a scholar supporting reform, on the brink of death, sent his daughter Bingyun far away to avoid danger from court politics; she became the wife of Xu Guangtai, the younger brother of the commander of the remote Yin-Yang Pass. Thus, in the isolated Yin-Yang Pass, a series of mysterious, tragic, and heroic life dramas began to unfold... When Bingyun first arrived at Yin-Yang Pass, her husband, the former hero of anti-Qing resistance, Xu Guangtai, after enduring hardship for six years to attain the love and power he desired, used Bingyun's beauty and innocence, along with the unwavering love of the elder wife, to murder his own brother, Commander Xu Guangqian, and gained the true power to rule Yin-Yang Pass, beginning to reveal his greater ambitions... Having lost her parents, Bingyun awakened a fierce spirit of resistance in the oppressive environment of Yin-Yang Pass, devoid of love, freedom, and women's dignity. She recklessly fell in love with Zhou Wen, a returning overseas scholar who came to establish a school, which ultimately led to Zhou Wen being ruthlessly slaughtered by feudal forces... After Zhou Wen's death, Bingyun, her heart deadened, resided in the heart of the water, spending her days accompanied by cranes. Just as she distanced herself from humanity, believing her heart had died with Zhou Wen many years ago, a revolutionary youth filled with new ideas, Fang Yulin, arrived at Yin-Yang Pass with the reform-minded young commander Xu Mingqing. Fang Yulin’s selfless devotion to saving the suffering masses awakened Bingyun, and in their shared struggle against feudal dictatorship to rescue the oppressed, she found not only love but also a life goal to overthrow feudal tyranny and save the suffering masses, for which she ultimately sacrificed her life... Young Commander Xu Mingqing, who was in love with his maid Shui Lan when Bingyun first arrived at Yin-Yang Pass, was influenced by Bingyun to resist the marriage arranged by his parents, which naturally ended in tragedy. When Xu Guangtai murdered his father and he learned the truth, he recklessly sought revenge, only for his mother to reveal the cruel fact that Xu Guangtai was his biological father. Left with no choice, Mingqing chose to escape and leave Yin-Yang Pass to go overseas... Later, when he became the ruler of Yin-Yang Pass, he abandoned his thoughts of liberation and ultimately succumbed to suicide.
