After pacifying the turmoil of the seven states, Emperor Jing of Han (played by Jiao Huang) began to address the issue of the feudal lords, reducing their power to strengthen central authority. With effective governance, Emperor Jing followed the philosophy of Laozi’s non-action, but the newly stabilized Western Han dynasty faced powerful invasions from the Xiongnu and had to endure humiliation and burdens to maintain border security through marriage alliances. After Emperor Jing's death, the young Emperor Wu of Han, Liu Che, was propelled to the throne through the careful planning and networking of his astute mother, Empress Wang. Upon ascending the throne, Emperor Wu showcased a different demeanor and intelligence compared to previous rulers; he opened up channels for advice, sought wise officials, and implemented reforms. Building on the foundations laid during his father’s reign, Emperor Wu (played by Chen Baoguo) continuously expanded the Western Han dynasty's territory, demonstrating a growing imperial spirit amidst setbacks and difficulties. With the help of his brother-in-law, Wei Qing (played by Lu Jianmin), the emperor launched decades of campaigns against the Xiongnu, driving them out of the Central Plains and erasing past national humiliations. Under Liu Che’s strong rule, the Western Han achieved an unprecedented era of prosperity.
