At the end of 1958, Li Zhihao, the director of the post office in a county of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, died while delivering mail, leaving behind his wife Kim Jeong-sook, who was seven months pregnant. His father-in-law, Kim In-jun, and Choi Soon-ja, seeing their youngest daughter in distress, sent their elder daughter Park Soon-ok from the affluent area by the Hailan River to the mountainous region to help the Li family through this difficult time.
