On August 10th, CCTV will broadcast the 25-episode TV series "Eighth Route Army" during prime time on its first channel. This series is a key film and television project commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, jointly produced by CCTV, the Publicity Department of the Shanxi Provincial Committee, the August First Film Studio, and the Shanxi Radio and Television Station. The TV series "Eighth Route Army" presents a panoramic view of the entire process of the Eighth Route Army's bloody struggle against the war, led by the Communist Party of China. It highlights the dominant position and significant role of the Eighth Route Army, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, in the all-nation anti-Japanese struggle. The series vividly, graphically, and clearly showcases the entire historical process of the World Anti-Fascist War, the Chinese War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, and the three phases of the prolonged war of resistance. It profoundly exposes the disasters brought to the Chinese people by the aggressive war launched by Japanese militarism, elucidating why the Chinese people rose to resist, why they ultimately chose the Communist Party of China, and why the Communist Party is the backbone of the Chinese nation's struggle in the war of resistance! The breadth of significant historical events covered by "Eighth Route Army," the depth of its exploration of the theory of the protracted nature of the War of Resistance, the application of guerrilla tactics in the anti-Japanese rear, the portrayal of various anti-Japanese generals, the combination of historical truth and artistic fiction, the grand and magnificent depiction of war scenes, as well as the display of patriotic fervor and heroic spirit make "Eighth Route Army" the most comprehensive, weighty, and epic masterpiece among the film and television works commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory in the war of resistance, possessing profound historical cognitive value and significant practical educational meaning. The narrative structure of the series features the fictional stories of five Eighth Route Army soldiers bravely fighting enemies and the "five abacus beads," cleverly designed with deep meaning. The portrayal of "cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party to resist Japan," especially the unique relationship between Kuomintang general Wei Lihuang and the Eighth Route Army, is quite novel and well-executed. These character designs and story weavings greatly enhance the narrative and visual appeal of the series. The creative team of this series is strong, the scenes are grand, and the historical span is extensive. The main creators are from the production teams of "Long March" and "Ode to Yan'an." The chief screenwriter is Wang Chaozhu, with scriptwriters Meng Bing and Wang Yuanping, directors Song Yemin and Dong Yachun, and the main cast includes: Tang Guoqiang as Mao Zedong, Wang Wufu as Zhu De, Liu Jin as Zhou Enlai, Guo Lianwen as Liu Shaoqi, Lu Qi as Deng Xiaoping, Yao Jude as Peng Dehuai, Zhu Xinyun as Ren Bishi, Zhang Zaixin as Liu Bocheng, Sun Jitang as Luo Ronghuan, Huang Gang as He Long, Zhao Kai as Nie Rongzhen, Song Kai as Zuo Quan, Wang Limin as Xu Xiangqian, Zheng Qiang as Zhang Wentian, and Ma Ming as Wang Jiaxiang, among others. Preparations for the "Eighth Route Army" script began in February 2004, and the script passed the review of the leadership group for major revolutionary and historical themes in August 2004. After passing the script review, the production team began preparations for filming. Filming commenced on October 26, 2004, in Beijing, with the crew divided into two groups shooting simultaneously, moving through Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Shanxi, and Hubei provinces and cities over five months. The crew wrapped filming on March 20, 2005, and entered post-production. Due to filming spanning winter, conditions were extremely tough. The entire cast and crew overcame unimaginable difficulties. For instance, the first phase of filming took place in Woniu Mountain and Tianmo in Huailai, Hebei, which is in a windy area and extremely cold. The "Eighth Route Army" crew showed remarkable fortitude against treacherous weather and harsh conditions by building trenches and constructing bunkers, shooting outdoor scenes during the day and rushing to produce other scenes at night, averaging 14 hours of filming daily. Many crew members suffered from swollen hands and fevers but remained steadfast at their posts. The entire team shared a common belief: to film the TV series "Eighth Route Army" with the "Taihang spirit," as a tribute to the 60th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
