In the 1990s, a widow, Xie Yujin (played by Li Mingqi), lives with her children in an ancient courtyard house: her eldest son, Bai Erhei (played by He Bing), is honest and straightforward, married to the strong-willed Chen Xiao Na (played by Niu Li). Chen Xiao Na lost her ability to have children due to a car accident, which becomes a major worry for Xie Yujin who is eager for grandchildren. As a result, Chen Xiao Na is filled with suspicion, leading to constant family conflicts. Bai Erhei's younger brother, Bai Jie (played by Zhan Weihua), ended up in prison for ten years after injuring gang leader Zhou Long (played by An Zehao). After being released, Bai Jie wants to lead a good life, but he continually suffers from Zhou Long's schemes and traps, deeply worrying his family.
