In early 1949, the liberation war was advancing rapidly, and the national liberation cause was within reach. The ruling Kuomintang centralized group led by Chiang Kai-shek attempted to take advantage of Yunnan’s geographic location on the frontier to establish it as the last anti-communist base on the mainland. To liberate all of China, our Second Field Army, under the leadership of Liu and Deng, implemented a series of directives from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Military Commission. We feigned attacks in the east to strike westward, and under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, a people's guerrilla war and a mass revolutionary struggle unfolded throughout Yunnan province. To preserve Yunnan as a reactionary base, Chiang Kai-shek applied both hard and soft tactics against the then-commanding general Lu Han. Under the push of the overall revolutionary situation, Lu Han resolutely responded to the Communist Party’s call and revolted. Unwilling to accept defeat, Chiang ordered Tang Yao to attack Kunming. Our Fourth Corps, following the operational strategy of great flanking, encirclement, and annihilation set forth by the Central Military Commission and Chairman Mao, as well as the directives from Liu and Deng, successfully conducted the Southern Yunnan Campaign. The entire production successfully portrayed a group of key figures from both parties, including Liu Bocheng, Deng Xiaoping, Chen Geng, Li Da, Chiang Kai-shek, Li Zongren, Lu Han, and Long Yun.
