In the first fifty years after the establishment of New China in the last century, responding to the great leader's call that "many people mean greater strength," multi-member households were everywhere in China. The scene of a family joyfully sitting around a table for a meal is still fresh in the memories of many older adults. The Zhao family, with nine members, is a representative of these ordinary families. The father, Zhao Yuchu (played by Bi Yanjun), is straightforward and stubborn, with a bit of self-righteousness.
