In 1940, in the Japanese-occupied puppet state of Manchukuo, in Harbin city. Zhao Zilan, a beautiful widow and the most trusted female innkeeper by the Japanese, mistakenly identifies Lin Zhuo Ying, a member of the Communist Party sent from Yan'an to Harbin for a mission to aid the Anti-Japanese Coalition, as her husband who has been dead for five years. To fulfill the mission, Lin Zhuo Ying plays along and pretends to be Zhao Zilan's husband, staying at the inn. He successfully navigates various trials, remains safely undercover, adheres to disciplinary boundaries while gradually influencing Zhao Zilan with righteousness. They outsmart the cunning Japanese commander Murakami while robbing grain depots to aid the common people.
