In the ninth year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, a "new-style matchmaking" event is held in Hangzhou. Dong Qichang (played by Qiu Xinzhi) and Chen Jiru (played by He Minghan) go to Hangzhou to find their friend Jiang Huaiyi (played by Li Changyuan) but encounter bandits and are saved by Lin Tiansu (played by Sun Yaoqi).
