The tragic eight-year war of resistance has ended, followed by the conflict between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. The Kuomintang's retreat to Taiwan has left many soldiers away from their hometowns and parents, gazing longingly at their homeland with tears flowing. Lu Gensheng (played by Zhang Guoli) is one of the millions of veterans who retreated to the island.
