During his journey to the Lotus Pool, Qianlong (played by Ng Man-tat) is ambushed by assassin Xu Lian (played by Shu Chang). In the midst of the fierce battle, Qianlong loses the extremely important Ruyi Fan. Chen Wenjie (played by Ding Dang), a talented child in the capital at just nine years old, has already been awarded the title of the emperor's top scholar. Together with his adoptive father Chen Qingyun (played by Ng Man-tat) and his friend, the little monk Xin Yuan (played by Lu Yihan), they set off on a journey to find the Ruyi Fan and capture the assassin. Along the way, they encounter the headstrong and willful Princess Ten (played by Chen Min), while Xu Lian disguises herself and blends in beside them. The trio faces continuous troubles and unexpected twists, but Chen Wenjie uses his intelligence to resolve each challenge. In the end, Chen Wenjie discovers that He Kun (played by Eric Tsang), a trusted minister whom Qianlong believes implicitly, is the mastermind behind all the events.
