The story tells of a newlywed couple, Chen Xing and Xu Minghao. Chen Xing, originally a drama actress, is temporarily assigned to a television station, where her debut is a great success and receives widespread acclaim from the audience. The station decides to consider officially transferring her, but the only condition is that she must not have children for the time being. Meanwhile, Chen Xing's husband, Xu Minghao, feels a sense of loss in the shadow of his wife's stardom. Encouraged by Chen Xing, he starts an advertising company with friends. In an effort to secure major clients, Xu hopes to leverage the relationship between his wife and their friend Shen Ziqiang, which causes emotional turmoil. While working on an anti-prostitution program, Chen Xing discovers that she is pregnant. However, Xu Minghao is preoccupied with his own matters and shows little concern. He advises Chen Xing to return to the drama troupe and to inform the station's leadership herself. Chen Xing places increasing hopes on the fetus, but tragically experiences a miscarriage. It is later found that the mother has syphilis. Upon learning this, Xu Minghao proposes a divorce. Chen Xing loses her child, her job, and her husband, and under the pressure of social scrutiny, she chooses to commit suicide, but is saved by Shen Ziqiang. It is then discovered that Chen Xing is suffering from congenital syphilis, which prompts her to investigate her biological mother's background. She learns about the sufferings endured by women in the old society and decides to create a program titled "Women’s Landscape," focusing on her own background, to help misguided girls return to the light and become healthy, independent women.
