Li Yong is the captain of the Criminal Investigation Division in Haishi, currently investigating a case of an unidentified female corpse when suddenly his superiors order him to lead a police team to investigate a smuggling case. At the smuggling scene, the prosecutor's office intervenes after receiving a tip-off, shockingly discovering diamonds worth 1.5 billion yuan in Li Yong's car. Li Yong is put under investigation. As the criminal police track down the source of the smuggled goods, they find that the owner, Meng En, has been murdered. Li Yong decides to go on the run to clear his name.
Lu Xiangdong is Li Yong's most trusted subordinate, and with his assistance, Li Yong evades surveillance. The criminal police and the prosecutor's office both work tirelessly to find Li Yong! Li Yong's daughter, Li Yu, becomes the focus of their monitoring, and the one responsible for watching her is Lu Xiangdong... Li Yu grew up like an orphan after her parents' divorce. She often opposes Li Yong but shares an unspoken understanding with him. After Li Yong gets into trouble, rebellious Li Yu forces herself to grow up and becomes capable of rescuing her father. During the monitoring, Lu Xiangdong sees the tough exterior of Li Yu and her lonely, vulnerable inner side, leading to a budding and subtle affection between them.
Flight attendant Zhao Yajun is pursued by gunmen, and police officers Gao Wei and Su Ying discover that Zhao Yajun is actually the sister of the unidentified female corpse. The victim is Zhao Lina, the owner of a beauty company. Zhao Yajun's pursuit may be related to Zhao Lina's situation. However, Zhao Yajun knows nothing about her sister, resulting in an unproductive investigation.
Li Yong discovers that Meng En is actually a puppet, and the company he represents, ZTE Dairy, is currently being acquired at a low price by Wang Jianchao. Wang Jian has repeatedly committed illegal actions, all of which Li Yong has suppressed, having arrested his thugs and executed his deputy for drug trafficking. It is very likely that his wrongful accusation is orchestrated by Wang Jian.
The assassin repeatedly attempts to harm Zhao Yajun but fails each time, while the criminal police struggle with no leads. Eventually, the assassin leaves behind a long hair, which the police treasure as evidence. However, when the report comes out, everyone is stunned—it's a 130-year-old hair! The case falls into a stalemate.
Since investigating the diamond case, prosecutor Liu Jie and Wei Lai have pressured Li Yong to surrender while trying to seize control over the smuggling case. Liu Jie finally discovers the true identity of the whistleblower in the smuggling case: it is Zhao Lina.
In order to investigate the arrogant Wang Jian, who has a vast network of connections, Li Yong doesn't hesitate to let Li Yu steal his aunt Lin Feng's—Wang Jian's assistant (and also his lover)—computer to find out the truth, but he is unable to decipher it, so he hands it to the police for further processing. Li Yong reluctantly uses his beating to send Wang Jian to the police station. However, with the maneuvering of Wang Jian's lawyer, Mo Lin, he soon avoids conviction. The police decipher the computer only to find that it actually belonged to Zhao Lina! Criminals violently seize the computer, but Li Yu manages to take evidence of the incident. Li Yong obtains evidence of Wang Jian's transactions with thugs and passes it to the police.
With the joint efforts of Liu Jie and Lu Xiangdong, the police and prosecutor’s office conduct a comprehensive search of the Ocean Group! Wang Jian is infuriated but has no recourse and can only seek help from his connections—Vice Mayor Wang Hao, who oversees political and legal affairs... The case is set to be handed over to the prosecutor's office with a deadline.
Li Yong gradually outlines the case: Zhao Lina reported diamond smuggling to Liu Jie, which led to the smuggling investigation that framed Li Yong, the owner of the smuggling goods was Meng En, Meng En represented ZTE Dairy, and ZTE Dairy was being acquired cheaply by Ocean Group, resulting in vast state assets being swallowed. The case reveals clues. Li Yong notices that the mustache of the antique opera costume is made from ancient human hair, and the white paint left by the assassin is used in opera. The 130-year-old hair points directly to a set of Qing Dynasty Cao Cao costumes auctioned at Sotheby's. Indeed, that costume was acquired by Zhao Lina, who also purchased a blue-and-white porcelain vase. Finally, traces of the assassin are found.
Wang Jian arranges for Lin Feng to flee, but Li Yu and Zhao Yajun sabotage the plan, leading to Lin Feng's detention. The assassin Xiaobai makes another attempt and seriously injures Zhao Yajun. Lu Xiangdong discovers that Wang Jian's lawyer Mo Lin, who came to bail Lin Feng, has traces of paint on him.
On the eve of the case's transfer to the prosecutor’s office, a mysterious person swaps the diamonds. After the prosecutor's office takes over and checks the diamonds, they find out they are fakes, and Li Yong finally clears his name. A crystal ball at Zhao Yajun's home reveals that Zhao Lina has a secret lover. The police discover that there is an important figure in Wang Jian's network that could affect the investigation process. As further investigation unfolds, Wang Hao's identity gradually comes to light, and the reason behind the assassin’s repeated attacks on Zhao Yajun, as well as Zhao Yajun's silence regarding her sister, is revealed through Liu Jie’s investigation into the South African diamond information.
It turns out Zhao Lina and Wang Hao took the same flight as Zhao Yajun to South Africa to buy diamonds, and Yajun was raped by Wang Hao in a hotel, leading to Zhao Lina's break with Wang Hao when she threatened to report the diamond smuggling. As a result, she was silenced upon returning home, and Zhao Yajun fell into a cycle of endless intimidation.
The Wang Jian group's illegal operations are gradually uncovered, ultimately taking down the Ocean Group. With Wang Hao's assistance, Wang Jian escapes investigation. Wang Hao orders the assassin to eliminate Zhao Yajun, but due to Xiaobai's deep involvement, he becomes mentally unstable, falls in love with Zhao Yajun, and perishes in flames with the costume. Wang Jian and Wang Hao, betting everything, manage to obtain the diamonds, only to find that they are fakes. In desperation, they arrange a meeting with the police insider, Officer Zhang.
It turns out it was Officer Zhang who taught them how to grow from corruption to capital operation for profit, smuggling diamonds. Officer Zhang uses real diamonds to lead Wang Jian and Wang Hao to their doom.
Through several leakages and swap incidents, Li Yong begins to investigate the police insider, starting with his closest comrade Lu Xiangdong and begins to suspect everyone. After undergoing tests of misunderstanding and understanding of human nature, he discovers that Lu Xiangdong is the prime suspect.
Diamonds worth 1.5 billion yuan force Wang Jian and Wang Hao's criminal group to ask Zhang for a resolution. As Zhang arranges to divide the loot with the criminal group, when they gather to share their spoils, Zhang arrives, who turns out to be Li Yong, along with dozens of fully armed special police who apprehend the criminal group in one sweep. In the police car, Zhang, putting on handcuffs on himself, reveals everything—he is Lu Xiangdong, who had orchestrated the entire diamond case as a plan to eradicate Wang Jian's evil force.
Years ago, Wang Jian's father, an excellent police officer, committed suicide after being framed for bribery by a criminal group. This led to the vengeful Lu Xiangdong swearing to eliminate the criminal group at all costs. Thus, he began to earn their trust by helping Wang Hao resolve the corruption suspicions, subsequently teaching them how to make money and launder money, while seizing the opportunity to raid their smuggling operations at critical moments. The plan was perfect, but Zhao Lina's murder case caused it to spiral out of control. Although the case was eventually solved, Lu Xiangdong paid a heavy price.
